Fabulous find from the 1930s! Antique WHITING & DAVIS
"ELSAH" mesh handbag. This bag was designed by Italian designer ELSA SHIAPARELLI who collaborated with Whiting & Davis during the 1930s on designs and patterns. She was an independent woman who was ahead of her time and had a fascinating life. These bags were popular by stage and screen actresses.
This handbag is well used and not in pristine condition. It has two hang tags inside. One says "WHITING & DAVIS" and the other "ELSAH"
Imagine where this handbag has been or who has worn it. It was carried during the Great Depression and has seen so much history since then. It was a status symbol to be able to buy these mesh bags especially during the depression. It meant you had money and places to go. Great piece for the collector.
