A beautiful hand-carving sea turtle figure sculpture made of dark, dense, heavy, and very hard ironwood with details having a smooth and shiny surface, by Mexican Native Americans, the Seri Indians in Mexico. The Seri people are one of the ethnic indigenous groups of the Mexican state of Sonora, not related culturally or linguistically to other groups, the Seri language is distinct from all others in the region and is considered a language isolate. They are semi-nomadic and maintain an intimate relationship with both the sea and the land; only an estimated 500 Seri still live in Mexico. Measuring 7.75"L x 4"W x 2.5"H and weighing 1 lb .9 oz. It is in good condition, the wear is consistent with age and use.
