This please do not cut any strings that you see as those are where the yarn has been tied together you can pull them through to one side and use the opposite side of your blanket for show.
This is a little bit of a scratchy yarn, and I'm unsure of what it is since it's a vintage item, but it would be beautiful as a top blanket for a bed or an Afghan for the back of a couch.
