CONNECTICUT & THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR This note confirms that the State of Connecticut owed Ralph Pomeroy three pounds for expenses during the American Revolutionary War! Promissory Note Signed: “Fenn Wadsworth”, “William Moseley”, “Hez. Rogers”, and “William Adams” (on verso, not seen in frame). 6½x3½ of note visible. Dated October 9, 1781. Framed with a plaque and printed image of The Spirit of '76, also known as Yankee Doodle. Printed image 3¼x5¼. The American Revolutionary War was fought from 1775 to 1783. The 13 colonies who took up arms against the British Army (then the strongest military force in the world by far) had a lot of will but not a lot of funds. The Continental Congress that governed the fledgling nation did not exert much power, so it was largely up to the colonies to raise money for the war effort. Connecticut formed a pay-table of four men that handled all military finances.
