Very Old (late 1800s - early 1900s) Handmade Red Leather Fringed Ceremonial Outfit Coat or Jacket with an Intricately Beaded Collar. Likely made for tourist powwows or Wild West shows. The beaded collar appears to be authentic Native American (possibly Metis Flower Beadwork People of Canada). I am unable to pinpoint the exact tribe or age. The beads are old. The jacket also has some beaded detail along the button line and is cloth-lined with an inner cloth pocket.

Measures: 20" pit-to-pit and 29" in length

Condition is Fair. There are obvious hand-sewn repairs, with some haphazard stitching choices utilizing red thread, and then more precise stitching with tan thread. On the back, you can see two rows of stitch holes that may indicate that this jacket was altered. The coat has quite a bit of discoloration or damage from sweat or body oils. There are areas of missing beads along the collar. This item has been stored with mothballs and will have a mothball smell.
